Immigration As A Political Weapon

On March 15, the U.S. government, without due process, illegally and unconstitutionally transferred 253 Venezuelans to El Salvador’s notorious anti-terrorist prison, CECOT. These individuals were accused of belonging to the Tren de Aragua gang, yet no evidence was provided. The prisoners were subjected to humiliation and egregious human rights violations. CECOT, which opened in 2023 and was partially built with U.S. funds, has been transformed into Bukele’s signature mega-prison, a symbol of his crackdown on gangs, alarmingly resembling a Nazi concentration camp. According to a report by the human rights organization Cristosal, the prisoners at CECOT do not receive enough water, food is very scarce, and they are only allowed one hour outside their cells.

Two Thirds Of UK Workers Will Face Deadly Temperatures By 2030

As the UK faces increasingly extreme summer heat due to climate breakdown, new research has revealed that up to two-thirds of British workers could be exposed to dangerously high temperatures at work by the end of this decade. What’s more, these climate crisis-exacerbated deadly temperatures will affect virtually the entire workforce by the end of the century under current emissions trajectories. These are the findings of a new report titled A New Deal for Working People: Extreme Heat. Independent research institute Autonomy produced the damning new revelations, which argues that the UK is failing to protect workers from rising heat.

Once Again, NYT Coverage Of Anti-Trans Attacks Leaves Out Trans Voices

California public schools are the latest target of Donald Trump’s Department of Justice, which is ramping up an investigation into high school sports after a transgender girl qualified for three track and field events at the upcoming state championships. The DoJ is alleging that the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) allowing transgender girls to compete in girls’ sports could violate Title IX, which prohibits discrimination based on sex. The New York Times (5/28/25) covered this latest right-wing attack on trans youth in a fashion all too common for the paper (FAIR.org, 5/11/23): devoid of any perspectives from trans individuals.

Following Kamala’s Script, Maryland Governor Vetoes Reparations Bill

With his veto earlier this month of legislation to study reparations for the descendants of enslaved Africans, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, a Democrat, signaled two things: first, he intends to seek his party’s nomination for the White House in 2028; and secondly, he plans to redeploy the discredited strategy of appealing to white voters by distancing his campaign from African Americans. If recent history is any guide, that dog won’t hunt for Moore, the nation’s lone African American governor, any more than it did for Kamala Harris in her presidential campaign last year or Hilary Clinton in 2016. Both Harris and Clinton cut their teeth as politicians with policies that the African American working class widely regarded as deeply racist; both lost to Donald Trump.

Hundreds Of Millions Are Dying Of Hunger

I have written this newsletter before. In fact, I could write this newsletter every year when a new Global Report on Food Crises is published. The report rests on four points: The number of people who are hungry is greater now than last year. The amount of food produced this year is greater than that produced last year. There is enough food to feed the total world population, and more. How do we explain why people are hungry? Let’s add in the data. Point no. 1: 733 million people faced chronic hunger in 2023, according to studies from the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), World Food Programme, World Health Organisation, International Fund for Agricultural Development, and United Nations Children’s Fund.

The Fall Of 2020: How Liberals Ceded Solidarity

Last Sunday marked five years since the world witnessed the public lynching of George Floyd at the hands, or as it was, the knee of the State. The aftermath of the livestreamed white “supremacy” webinar on the denial of the human rights of Black/Afro-resident people in the United States was the proliferation of incendiary uprisings nationwide that saw the incineration of buildings that housed businesses and even police precincts. - The nation was jolted awake after months of being moribund due to State-sanctioned covid quarantines and isolation. The streets were transformed from apparition avenues to lively lanes of social activity as people of all races, ethnicities, and genders coalesced to demand “justice” for Floyd and Brianna Taylor, both executed by the State, and Ahmad Aubrey who was shot to death by a civilian lynch mob.

The Sarajevo Declaration Of The Gaza Tribunal

We, the members of the Gaza Tribunal, having gathered in Sarajevo from 26 to 29 May 2025, declare our collective moral outrage at the continuing genocide in Palestine, our solidarity with the people of Palestine, and our commitment to working with partners across global civil society to end the genocide and to ensure accountability for perpetrators and enablers, redress for victims and survivors, the building of a more just international order, and a free Palestine. We condemn the Israeli regime, its perpetration of genocide, and its decades-long policies and practices of settler colonialism, ethno-supremacism, apartheid, racial segregation, persecution, unlawful settlements...

Poll: 82% Of Israelis Want To Expel Palestinians From Gaza

Support for genocide, mass murder, and ethnic cleansing is widespread in Israel. Israel’s former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert admitted that his country is waging a “war of extermination: the indiscriminate, unrestrained, cruel, and criminal killing of civilians”. Meanwhile, the vast majority of Israelis want to expel Palestinians from Gaza, and roughly half want to kill every single man, woman, and child in the besieged strip. This is according to a poll that was published by the major Israeli newspaper Haaretz. It found that 82% of Israelis want to expel Gazans, and 47% of support killing all Palestinians in Gaza. The more religious an Israeli is, the more likely they are to support genocide and ethnic cleansing.`

UK Prosecutors Collaborate With Israel To Persecute Activists

UK prosecutors are colluding with Israeli embassy officials to classify protesters resisting Israel’s genocide of Palestinians in Gaza as terrorists and to imprison them on heavily politicized grounds, an investigation by The Grayzone journalist Kit Klarenberg showed. “Documents released by the British government reveal that London has been coordinating with Israeli officials to prosecute protestors associated with activist group Palestine Action for disrupting the operations of Elbit Systems, which manufactures deadly weapons being used in the genocide in Gaza,” Klarenberg wrote. The documents suggest that Israel has successfully lobbied the UK to abandon well-established legal standards in order to charge activists resisting Israel’s genocide under harsh counter-terror laws.

Reports Of Killings, Abductions, And Missing Persons At US-Run Aid Center

Muhammad Imad Abdel Hadi traveled from Khan Younis to Rafah on May 27 to obtain food after hearing that the American and Israeli-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) was distributing aid in the Tal al-Sultan area. Amid the chaos that erupted at the distribution point, starving Palestinians desperate for food stormed the site and forced the American mercenaries manning it to retreat. Muhammad was one of the people who managed to secure a food parcel for his family. He was on his way back with the joyful news when the Israeli army killed him before he could deliver it. Muhammad’s mother, Rehab Abdel Hadi, dressed in black, now carries her son’s coffin at Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis and walks in his funeral procession.

Netanyahu Threatening To Upend US-Iran Talks By Attacking Iran

The New York Times reported on Wednesday that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is threatening to upend negotiations between the US and Iran by potentially attacking Iranian nuclear facilities. The report said that the threat from Israel led to a recent tense phone call between Netanyahu and President Trump and a series of meetings between senior US and Israeli officials in recent days. Trump was asked by reporters on Wednesday if he warned Netanyahu against attacking Iran during a phone call last week, and said, “Well, I’d like to be honest. Yes, I did.” “It’s not a warning. I said I don’t think it’s appropriate.

Ballots And Bias: How The Press Framed Venezuela’s Elections.

The pro-government alliance achieved a sweeping victory in Venezuela’s May 25 elections, while a fractured opposition suffered losses. Western media distorted the results – spinning low turnout claims, ignoring the role of illegal US sanctions, and offering selective sympathy to elite opposition figures. At stake for the 54 contesting Venezuelan political parties were seats for 285 National Assembly deputies, 24 state governors, and 260 regional legislators. The pro-government coalition won all but one of the governorships, taking three of the four states previously held by the opposition. The loss of the state of Barinas was particularly symbolic for this was the birthplace of former President Hugo Chávez; and especially so, because the winner was Adán Chávez, the late president’s older brother.

Australian Whistleblower David McBride’s Appeals Rejected

Canberra, Australia - A three-judge panel at the Supreme Court in Australia’s capital Wednesday spent less than one minute dismissing all appeals by David McBride, sending the government whistleblower back to prison where he is serving a six-year sentence for exposing his country’s war crimes in Afghanistan. McBride appeared only briefly in court and waved to his lawyer, family and the few supporters who were able to make it into the courtroom. After the judges pronounced their decision, he was whisked off back to his Canberra jail cell, leaving his ex-wife in tears.   His attorney and a few supporters were left stunned and ashen-faced as they reeled from the ruling.

Forensic Failures: 36 Police-Custody Deaths Should Have Been Ruled Homicide

An unprecedented independent audit found that 36 deaths in police custody over a two-decade span in Maryland should have been ruled homicides by the state’s top medical examiner, a stinging rebuke of Maryland‘s past efforts to investigate the deaths of those once held by law enforcement. The yearslong audit, shared exclusively with The Baltimore Banner ahead of Thursday’s release, cited a likely reason behind the massive failure: racial and pro-police bias in the work of the state’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which had been led for nearly 20 years by Dr. David Fowler. Before the audit, the deaths had been classified as accidents, natural causes or simply undetermined.
