Our sources are from organizations and independent media outlets free of corporate and government propaganda. We strongly encourage you to share these articles by email and social media so that together we create an echo chamber that overcomes the influence of the oligarchy. Diplomatic Chess, Ukraine The Pawn

As was universally expected, little came out of Istanbul this week, where Ukrainian and Russian delegations met with the ostensible purpose of exploring a negotiated settlement of the proxy war the U.S. provoked three years ago. It is an odd state of affairs when even the people doing the talking did not anticipate anything useful to emerge from their talking. After less than two hours of negotiation, the two sides agreed only to future talks on subsidiary questions: a prisoner exchange and a 30–day ceasefire — a ceasefire Kiev and its Western backers refused for years but are now desperate to implement.

Trump’s Attempt To Destroy Due Process Meets 7–2 Scotus Defeat

On Friday afternoon, the Supreme Court issued an emphatic and unusual decision declaring that the Trump administration violated the due process rights of Venezuelan migrants in its attempt to deport them to a Salvadoran prison. The government’s late-night race to expel these individuals, the court held, “surely does not pass muster” under the Constitution, failing to provide them with fair notice and an opportunity to contest their removal. The court also extended an injunction to stop the government from deporting an entire class of migrants under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 while the case works its way through the lower courts.

A Language Of Blood Has Gripped Our World

Over the past weeks, international focus has no doubt been on the escalation between India and Pakistan, which we will write more about once the dust settles. Though none of the armies crossed the border or the Line of Control, concern is nonetheless understandable: both countries wield nuclear weapons in their arsenal. Now, there has effectively been a return to the ceasefire of 1948, which has lingered in the decades since without a proper and full peace treaty. International attention has also rightly remained on the genocide in Palestine, with Israelis tightening the total siege on Gaza, perhaps as vengeance for Palestinians’ return to northern Gaza on 27 January 2025 in total defiance of the genocidal war.

How The GOP Is Saving The Fossil Fuel Industry From Trump

On April 2, so-called Liberation Day, President Trump announced a suite of sweeping tariffs on virtually every country in the world, including some entirely populated by penguins . Of all the nations Trump picked a trade war with, China was set to be hit with the most aggressive tariffs at a rate of 145% for Chinese goods set to be sold in the United States. The announcement of these tariffs, essentially a tax on goods and supplies sold domestically, sent shockwaves through the global economy forcing corporations to scramble to find expedient answers to cope with rising prices and dim economic forecasts.

The Hypocrisy Of US Imperialists And Syrian Reactionaries

The Trump regime’s decision to lift sanctions on Syria exposes the true purpose of sanctions: to deliberately impoverish ordinary citizens, force regime change and extend U.S.-led imperial control. For 15 years, the United States imposed draconian sanctions on the Assad government, isolating Syria from international banking, trade and essential sectors such as energy, health and education, with the explicit intent of undermining its self-sufficient socialist economy. These measures were designed to demoralize ordinary Syrians and force a change in leadership by targeting the elected coalition government of Syria under President Assad, who had defended the Palestinian cause and refused to normalize relations with the Zionist entity.

US Authorities Fire Intelligence Officials Who Contradicted Trump

The US government fired two high-ranking officials of the US National Intelligence Council (NIC) who had contradicted the Trump administration’s claim that the Venezuelan government has ties with the now defunct Tren de Aragua gang. The director of National Intelligence, Tulsi Gabbard, expelled the interim president of the NIC, Michael Collins, and his deputy, Maria Langan-Riekhof, who were responsible for the investigation that destroyed the Venezuelan far-right’s propaganda about alleged links between the gang and the government of Nicolás Maduro. Gabbard’s fired these two NIC officials because their findings did not agree with Trump’s political agenda of continuing a false narrative against Venezuela.

77 Years Of Dispossession: Everything You Need To Know About The Nakba

May 15 marks the 77th anniversary of the Nakba — the destruction of historic Palestine, the catastrophe of dispossession, and the mass ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian population in 1948, which continues to this day. The Arabic word ‘Nakba’ means ‘catastrophe’, with this day designated as Nakba Day. The Balfour Declaration, a pledge by British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour in November 1917, is regarded as one of the main catalysts for the Nakba. The pledge came in the form of a letter written on behalf of the British government by the then Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Lord Walter Rothschild, “a figurehead of the British Jewish community, for circulation among the Zionist Federation of Great Britain and Ireland,” according to the Geneva International Center for Justice.

Pentagon Using Fabricated Chinese Threat To Build GE Soldiers

On April 8, a bipartisan commission chartered by Congress warned that China is rapidly advancing a terrifying new military threat: genetically engineered “super soldiers.” The report by the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology (NSCEB) urges the U.S. to respond with a sweeping effort to militarize biotechnology. It offers little concrete evidence that such Chinese programs even exist. In the name of national security, Washington is now pushing for deregulation, massive government investment, and human experimentation. Experts say this effort echoes Cold War-era paranoia and threatens to erode ethical boundaries in science and warfare.

Argentina’s Worker Co-ops Under Attack

There was some extremely troubling news out of Argentina last week. On March 28th, the Melei administration Presidential Spokesman Manuel Adorni announced that the government would be suspending all worker co-ops created between 2020 and 2022 and auditing all those formed last year. While this official statement was quickly gainsayed by other government agencies, what had happened was just as bad: the National Institute of Associativism and Social Economy (INAES) – the agency responsible for registering co-ops – had voted to suspend 11,000 co-ops for lack of documentation and other alleged non-compliance.

Terrorism We Are Witnessing Today Comes From Imperialism

The “terrorism we are witnessing today comes from imperialism, and we are fighting it,” Burkina Faso’s charismatic president, 37-year-old Capt. Ibrahim Traoré told Vladimir Putin on May 10. The Russian president in turn assured him, “We are united by a common goal of fighting terrorism and extremism. We will continue to help the Republic in… suppressing the radical (Jihadist) groups that are still active in certain parts of Burkina Faso.” The leaders met in Moscow a day after attending the Victory Day Parade on May 9, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the defeat of Nazi Germany by the Soviet Union in 1945.

Latin America’s Long Fight Against The US For Sovereignty

“An American team will win the next soccer World Cup,” a Nicaraguan boy once told me. It took me a second to realize he meant Brazil or Argentina, not the United States. Greg Grandin’s new book shows that “America” (or, in Spanish, América) was the name used for the whole hemisphere by the late 17th century. In the 18th, the great liberator Simón Bolívar set out his vision of “our America”: a New World free of colonies, made up of distinct republics living in mutual respect. He even cautiously welcomed the newly declared Monroe Doctrine as a rejection of European imperialism. Bolívar died without realizing his dream of a Pan-American international order but, Grandin argues, his ideals live on in Latin America today.

New Report Documents Disparities In Workers’ Health Care Coverage

As Congressional Republicans weigh major cuts to Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act (ACA), a new research paper reveals troubling disparities in how workers obtain health insurance in the United States.  The new paper from the Center for Economic and Policy Research (CEPR) – A Complicated Maze: How Workers Navigate the US Health Care System – finds major gaps in the availability of employer-based insurance. The complicated public and private system that attempts to fill those gaps, however, falls short of providing universal coverage – and Congress is considering changes that threaten to end coverage for millions of workers.

Medhurst Case: Test Of A Turning Tide On Gaza

British journalist Richard Medhurst, who was arrested last year and questioned under Britain’s draconian Terrorism Act, is facing a possible “terrorism” prosecution for journalism that is highly critical of Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza. The move comes amid indications that cracks are appearing in the wall of steadfast Western establishment backing for Israel no matter what outrages the Jewish state commits. Whether Britain’s Crown Prosecution Service actually recommends a prosecution of Medhurst will be a test as to how far Western leaders are willing to go to violate their own so-called democratic principles to uphold a clearly corrupt relationship with Tel Aviv.

Hamas Releases Israeli-American Captive Edan Alexander

Israeli soldier and American citizen Edan Alexander was released today by the Qassam Brigades, Hamas’s armed wing, which had held him captive in Gaza since October 2023. The Israeli public broadcasting service confirmed on Monday afternoon that Alexander was handed over to the International Red Cross in the southern Gaza town of Khan Younis. Earlier in the day, an Israeli military helicopter transported several of Alexander’s family members to the Israeli Re’im military base on the outskirts of Gaza in preparation to receive the captive soldier as U.S. Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff arrived in Israel.

Trump’s Tariffs And The New Cold War On China

The first thing to say about the Trump administration’s tariff war is that it is primarily designed to weaken, undermine and isolate the People’s Republic of China. It’s part of a broader program of “decoupling” from China and a broader New Cold War on China – a system of hybrid warfare incorporating economic measures, diplomatic measures and propaganda measures, along with a significant military component: the deployment of hundreds of thousands of troops to the Pacific region; the US military bases in the Philippines, Guam, Okinawa, Japan, South Korea, Australia; the deployment of sophisticated weapons systems to the region; and the various attempts to create some sort of Asian NATO.
