Tropical Forest Forever Facility Or The Fake Forest Fund?

Belem, Brazil - The Global Campaign to Demand Climate Justice (DCJ) and its members and allies from Brazil and across the world reject the new proposal of Tropical Forest Forever Facility presented by the Brazilian government at the Leaders Summit being held in Belem from 6-7 November 2025. TFFF is a false solution that deepens the financialisation and commodification of forests rather than protecting them. Behind the rhetoric of conservation, the TFFF hands control of forest governance to global financial actors and institutions like the World Bank, with a documented history of human and environmental rights violations in so-called “conservation” and “development” projects.

Look Out For These Eight Big Ag Greenwashing Terms At COP30

Food and agriculture will be under the spotlight at the upcoming round of global climate negotiations in northern Brazil. Representatives from nearly every nation will gather from 6-21 November in Belém, a regional capital and gateway to the Amazon, with most countries far off target to deliver deep cuts to carbon emissions — the only way to halt the worst impacts of catastrophic climate change. Some food and climate groups hope this thirtieth annual Conference of the Parties (called COP30) summit can be a game changer for reforming food systems, which emit around a third of all a third of all greenhouse gases. After all, Brazil — which holds the presidency of COP30 — has a reputation for skilled diplomacy, and has made agriculture objective number three on the conference agenda.

How Traditional Knowledge Is Saving Forgotten Lands

The Instituto Anjos do Sertão is a non-profit family organization based in Canto do Buriti, Brazil. Founded in December 2015 by a Brazilian family, it combines a holistic vision with educational programs in regenerative farming and a research center – all centered around a 5,500-hectare regenerative school farm. Its story begins in 2008 when the founders of Anjos do Sertão purchased the land in the Caatinga region – a unique and neglected biome in the Northeast Region of Brazil. Immediately they faced a critical lack of skilled local labor to work on the farm.

Brazil’s MST Will Organize Brigades To Support Venezuela

The national leader of Brazil’s Landless Rural Workers’ Movement (MST), João Pedro Stédile, announced that popular movements across Latin America are working in coordination to send brigades of activists to Venezuela in solidarity with the country’s government and people, amid growing threats of a possible US military intervention. “We, as movements in Latin America, are holding meetings and consultations to organize, as soon as possible, internationalist brigades of activists from each of our countries to go to Venezuela and stand alongside the government and the Venezuelan people,” said Stédile in an interview with Radio BdF.

Brazil’s Co-Ops Have Big Asks Ahead Of COP30

With the UN Climate Change Conference (COP30) taking place in Belém, Brazil, in November, the country’s co-op movement is trying to boost its presence in climate discussions and reaffirm its commitment to sustainable development. Co-ops are key players in Brazil, accounting for 75% of wheat, 55% of coffee, 53% of corn, 52% of soybeans, 50% of pigs, 46% of milk and 43% of beans produced. The nation’s 4,500 co-ops represent 23 million members. In March, the Brazilian Cooperative Organisation (OCB) published a COP30 Manifesto, after a series of conversations with member organisations and co-op leaders which started at the 15th Brazilian Cooperative Congress in 2024.

World Leaders Rebel Against United States And Israel

World leaders from roughly 190 countries gathered in September for the general debate of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This year, many governments condemned the United States and Israel for carrying out crimes against humanity in Gaza. Representatives of numerous countries expressed support for the Palestinian people, while denouncing Western imperialism. A UN commission and multiple UN legal experts have stated conclusively that Israel is committing genocide in Gaza. At the 2025 UNGA general debate, it was left-wing leaders from Latin America who led the resistance against the US empire. Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro compared the US government to Nazi Germany and referred to Donald Trump as the “new Hitler”.

People Across Asia And Latin America Mobilize In Support Of Gaza Flotilla

Protests broke out in various countries in Asia on Thursday, October 2, following the Israeli attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) on Wednesday and the abduction of hundreds of activists. The GSF, consisting of over 40 ships with hundreds of activists onboard, was heading towards the besieged Palestinian territory of Gaza in order to break the Israeli siege and deliver crucial humanitarian aid to its people forced to starve by Israel. The ships were attacked by the Israeli forces on the night of October 1, an attack which continued until October 3, when they were scores of miles away from the Gaza coast. Israeli forces abducted the activists and seized the aid the ships were carrying for the people of Gaza.

National Sovereignty Is At The Root Of The Environmental Struggle In Brazil

The battle to preserve our environment is intrinsically linked to the defense of our national sovereignty. How our country positions itself on the global stage, who our natural resources serve, and who dictates the rules of the environmental game are central issues in ensuring a sustainable future for the Brazilian population. The increasing frequency of prolonged droughts, devastating floods, and suffocating heat waves are not mere accidents of nature; they are symptoms of a deep environmental crisis that affects all Brazilian biomes. For popular movements in rural areas, the root of the environmental problem lies in the logic of the capitalist system, which prioritizes profit over life and nature.

Jair Bolsonaro Found Guilty By Brazilian Supreme Court

On the afternoon of Thursday, September 11, Supreme Court Minister Cármen Lúcia cast the vote to cement the majority decision to convict former President Jair Bolsonaro and seven other allies accused of coup plot. In her vote, the minister stated that “Jair Messias Bolsonaro committed the crimes with which he is charged as the leader of a criminal organization. He was not swept up into the insurgency. He is the instigator, he is the leader of an organization that promoted all forms of coordination aligned with the goal of maintaining or seizing power.” She continued: “There is clear evidence that the group led by Jair Messias Bolsonaro and composed of key figures in the government developed and implemented a progressive and systematic plan to attack democratic institutions with the aim of undermining the legitimate alternation of power in the 2022 elections and undermining the free exercise of other constitutional powers, especially the judiciary.”

Brazilian Oil Workers Join Genoa Dock Workers To Defend Global Sumud Flotilla

Brazil’s National Federation of Oil Workers (FNP) and its various unions are demanding that the government of Brazilian president Lula guarantee the safety of Brazilian activists aboard the flotilla bound for Palestine. The Global Sumud Flotilla, the largest international humanitarian aid mission in history, is attempting to break the illegal blockade imposed by the Israeli government. In a statement, the union declared: Palestine is a country recognized by Brazil, and access for Brazilian and other civilians must be guaranteed by the Brazilian government. It is unacceptable that an invading force prevents civilians on a humanitarian mission from reaching Gaza to deliver aid to millions of people exposed to famine due to Israeli policy.

Indigenous Stewardship Is The Ignored Climate Solution

As the world stumbles toward climate tipping points, a growing body of scientific evidence suggests that among the most powerful defenders of nature are not satellites or carbon markets, but people – Indigenous peoples. From the rainforests of the Amazon to the boreal forests of Canada, Indigenous stewardship may be one of the most high-impact and cost-effective strategies to mitigate climate change, preserve biodiversity, and disrupt environmental crimes. Indigenous peoples occupy, use, or manage over a quarter of the Earth’s surface, including many of its most ecologically intact regions. These territories often overlap with areas of high carbon density and biodiversity richness.

Brazil’s Indigenous Peoples Present Climate Demands Ahead Of COP30

In a powerful call to action ahead of the UN Climate Conference (COP30) in Belém this November, a coalition of more than 300 Indigenous peoples from across Brazil has presented a sweeping set of demands for the country’s updated climate commitments, insisting that the demarcation and protection of Indigenous territories must be formally recognized as a central pillar of Brazil’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement. The 19-page declaration, signed by the Articulação dos Povos Indígenas do Brasil (APIB) and regional Indigenous federations, argues that Indigenous lands are “the last barriers to global collapse.”

Lula Takes Trump’s Tariffs To World Trade Organization

On Wednesday, August 6, the Brazilian government filed a request for consultation with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against tariffs imposed by the United States on Brazilian products. The decision was made on the same day that the tariff announced by US President Donald Trump came into effect, raising taxes on a series of imports from Brazil to 50%. In a statement, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry said that the request is the first step before opening a panel at the WTO – the organization’s judgment tool. The consultation questions the measures and says that the US “flagrantly violates central commitments made by that country at the WTO, such as the most-favored-nation principle and the tariff ceilings negotiated within that organization,” the document says.

Will Brazil Host A Conference That Saves The World’s Climate?

Thirty years have passed since the first Conference of the Parties (COP) of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was held in Berlin (Germany). Since then, successive agreements, targets, and definitions have been ineffective in addressing the two main issues that have lingered at the COP since 1995: first, the responsibility of the rich countries for the climate catastrophe, and second, the need to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. At the COP30 in Belém do Pará (Brazil), the world will once more have to see if these questions are addressed or ignored.

Brazil To Join South Africa’s Complaint Against ‘Israel’ At International Court Of Justice

According to Folha de S. Paulo, Brazil will formally request to participate in the lawsuit filed by South Africa against Tel Aviv. The Brazilian news outlet stated that the complaint before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) seeks to have the actions committed by Israeli forces in the Gaza Strip recognized as genocide. South Africa filed a case at the ICJ in 2023, accusing Israel of committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. The complaint, rooted in the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide, alleges that Israel’s military operations since October 2023 have targeted the Palestinian population with the intent to destroy their group in whole or in part.
