Environmental groups and unions representing construction workers found common ground this summer over President Trump’s blocking of offshore wind projects. The Revolution Wind offshore turbine farm off the coast of Rhode Island is 80 percent complete, but its fate remains uncertain after the Department of Interior issued a stop-work order on August 22. “The full thing was finally getting put together, and having it stopped like that was out of nowhere,” said Antonio Gianfrancesco, a Laborer from Local 271 who has been working the project for more than two years. The project’s halt resulted in a fiery statement from Sean McGarvey, president of North America’s Building Trades Unions (NABTU), an alliance of 14 construction unions: “Trump just fired 1,000 of our members who had already labored to complete 80 percent of this major energy project.

A United Nations commission has conclusively stated that Israel is committing genocide against the Palestinian people. This genocide has had the full support of the United States, under both Donald Trump and Joe Biden. In fact, since October 2023, the US government has vetoed six resolutions in the UN Security Council that called for peace in Gaza. The latest example was on 18 September, when 14 of the 15 members of the Security Council voted for a resolution that demanded a ceasefire and the release of all hostages. The United States was the only country that opposed it, and Washington has veto power, so it killed the measure.

Donald Trump and officials in his administration have dispensed with even the appearance of established niceties in their quest to realize a vision of making white people and his concept of power ascendant throughout this country and the world. White power and brute force are their priorities – and any other considerations and even common sense take a back seat. If farmers who voted for Trump can’t find workers because of his immigration crackdown, so be it. His animus towards undocumented people is so great that he shoved some of his supporters under the bus and into bankruptcy. Lest anyone forget, it was the very conservative Ronald Reagan who enacted an amnesty for undocumented people in order to ensure a plentiful labor force for agriculture and other industries that are dependent upon immigrant labor.

The US government has always had a very aggressive foreign policy. The United States has intervened in dozens of countries all around the world. But what is unique about Donald Trump is that many of his aggressive policies not only target US adversaries like China, Russia, Iran, Venezuela, and Cuba, but also longtime US allies. Trump has imposed high tariffs that have hurt the economies of key US allies such as Japan, South Korea, and Europe. In fact, the details of the agreement that Trump imposed on Japan are quite shocking. This was reported on by the Financial Times, which wrote that “Japan confronts the increased price of US friendship”. Although I would say it’s not so much “friendship”; rather it’s vassalage. Japan has been militarily occupied by the US for 80 years, and we’re now seeing the cost of this imperial relationship.

Activists from the anti-war group CODEPINK confronted US President Donald Trump and his cabinet at a restaurant in Washington, DC on September 9. The disruption made national headlines and (evidently) sent the Trump administration into a frenzy. At the restaurant on September 9, peace activists got surprisingly close to Trump and cabinet members including Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, shouting “Free DC, free Palestine, Trump is the Hitler of our time!” Trump appeared to react with visible frustration as he gestured for his security to remove the protesters, saying “Get them out of here.”

US President Donald Trump announced on his social media platform, Truth Social, Monday, a second “kinetic strike” against a stalled small boat allegedly carrying illegal drugs from Venezuela. In the announcement, the US ruler acknowledged the summary execution of three unidentified male Venezuelan civilians. The statement coincided with the release of an extremely blurry video by the US secretary of war. The video shows a stalled boat displaying no signs of violence before being obliterated by an explosion. The video lacked the visual sharpness and information about the date or location necessary for a fair analysis of the incident, similar to the video from a first execution reported on September 2.

A new Trump executive order has opened the door for 401(K) holders to invest in private equity, cryptocurrency, and other alternative assets. Why did Trump make this decision? Gerald Epstein, a leading expert on finance and financial crises, warns that Trump’s executive order on retirement accounts not only comes with high risks, but the so-called alternative assets deliver, at best, average returns. This comes as Trump continues to threaten even more cities across the United States with deployment of the National Guard, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and other repressive forces to carry out mass deportations and terrorize activists and communities who oppose the Far Right. The offensive in DC has been easier for the administration to carry out due largely to the fact that the city does not have statehood. Despite this, the residents have resisted the federal offensive. Students have staged walkouts, activists including veterans have confronted ICE in the streets, and groups like Free DC have organized regular protests.

Trump Announces He Will Send National Guard To Occupy Memphis

President Donald Trump announced during an appearance on “Fox & Friends” that he is planning to send military troops to Memphis, Tennessee. During his appearance on September 12, Trump said his administration would deploy the National Guard “and anybody else we need” to the Tennessee city. Trump did not provide a timeline for the deployment. “By the way, we’ll bring in the military too if we need it,” he added. Trump said Memphis is “deeply troubled.” “We’re going to fix that, just like we did in Washington,” he said. The Memphis Shelby Crime Commission shows that crime in Memphis, including violent crime, has decreased since last year. Violent crime from January to June is down more than 17 percent this year compared with the same period in 2024.

There is a historical and social context that must ground our understanding of the policy formations emanating from the Trump administration. And what is that context? U.S. cold warriors have failed to prevent Russia, China, Iran, and other members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) from obtaining their economic independence. That means keeping the fruits of their economic growth for themselves, rather than letting it be drained off by U.S. banks, investors, consumers, and the U.S. Treasury through the monetary dollar standard. Washington’s cold warriors have been unable to stop SCO members from moving forward and becoming independent from U.S. influence. Recognizing that they are unable to prevent this, U.S. policy is focusing now on how to prevent Europe (especially Germany), Japan, and South Korea from becoming industrial rivals and hence threats — while also targeting China and BRICS.

8000 Chicagoans Make It Clear: ‘No Trump, No Troops!’

Chicago, IL – On September 6, 8000 Chicagoans rallied and marched downtown to demand that no federal troops be deployed in the city. The demonstration, led by the Coalition Against the Trump Agenda (CATA) in partnership with the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights (ICIRR), showed broad opposition to the incoming illegal military occupation and made clear that Chicagoans are not afraid to exercise their democratic right to resist. “The Trump administration has been escalating their illegal attacks on the city,” said Veronica Castro, ICIRR’s deputy director. Castro described recent incidents of ICE activity, emboldened by the incoming federal forces, including masked agents targeting the domestic violence courthouse for arrests.

Washington DC—On Sunday afternoon, the Peace Vigil manager, Philipos Melaku-Bello reclined in the sun under a big red umbrella at the William Thomas Memorial Peace Vigil, reflecting on the whirlwind of events that occurred over the last three days. Just hours earlier, the 44 year old Peace Vigil was raided by U.S. National Park Police which tore down and confiscated the blue tarp tent, its frame, and cinder block anchors. As word spread of the raid, scores of longtime DC activists, residents, and supporters sprang into action. They rolled in throughout the day, like an anonymous army of loyal supernumeraries, to sit with and support Philipos and the other activists who staff the Peace Vigil.
